Getting Hygge With It!

I must admit I occasionally miss the change of season. We’re heading into winter and some days it’s still in the upper 80’s here! That said, I still find myself doing little things here and there to adjust — whether it be eating more fall-friendly foods or getting into nesting mode at home. One thing that’s getting me into the mood of the season is a little change of décor, and I’ve been inspired by the Scandinavian “hygge” lifestyle, which is essentially making everything feel super duper extra cozy!

Paint and textiles are two of the easiest ways to change the feeling of a space without any major overhauls. So if you’re like me and love to switch things up seasonally, this might be a way for you to bring in all the hygge vibes without doing too much work. For my latest décor spree, I got to work with Loloi to swap in some new rugs and pillows. My living room got the biggest visual makeover, but it was still really simple. After we got the yellow sofa, I felt like the jade accent wall was too much or not enough. I was going to either paint the entire room jade or paint over the accent wall, which was a much easier job, so I opted for the latter.

I wanted to go from my usually colorful, eclectic feel to something more fresh and neutral. To give it that feel, I started with a coat of crisp, white paint (Polar Bear from Behr) on the walls and added in this ivory shag rug from Loloi, appropriately named Hygge! Although it definitely brightens things up, the texture and pattern make the room still feel really warm and tactile! I love the feel of the rug and so does our pups!

To accent all the white, I switched up my pillow situation as well, using pieces from my girl Justina Blakeney’s new collection for Loloi. All the goods she designed for the brand have her signature Jungalow feel with lots of graphic patterns, textures, and tassels. Within the collection I opted for a variety of different shapes and sizes in colors that harmonized with my new winter palette, but added a bit more warmth to the space. It wouldn’t be my style to keep things too minimal around here!

My concoction to a cozy space is texture, color, something handmade, vintage, art, and plants. For texture, let’s start with this creamy Luminosa pillow with a circle. It’s like a modern take on a Moroccan wedding blanket. And this geometric black and white Harlequin pillow. I love the hard, metallic sequins mixed with the soft woven fabrics. And how cute is that Tigress pillow? Then, I like to bring in some color, like the yellow sofa. This Mulberry Harlequin pillow and Fletcha lumbar pillow definitely makes it feel very fall. After color, I like to add something handmade like the Malawi wicker chair with something vintage, like my green ceramic lamp. Then, I sprinkle in art and plants. And that’s how you’ll have a cozy spot for lounging all day!

I also fell in love with the Cielo Terracotta rug Justina created for Loloi. It brings such a subtle change to the room but still feels so harmonious with the pieces we already had in there, including the paint color! They’re made for indoors and outdoors so they’re really durable. I don’t have to worry about all the traffic, food, or the fact that our pups seem to spend a lot of quality time on them. So y’all ready to get hygge with me this season?!
