A little more about me. I'm Dabito, but you can just call me Dab. I was born in the heart of Chinatown in Los Angeles. I went to the University of California Santa Cruz where I majored in Fine Arts, with a focus in printmaking and photography. It's funny because I had no idea printmaking even existed prior to Santa Cruz. Actually, I've never even heard of Santa Cruz if it wasn't for my wonderful guidance counselor in high school. I initially applied as a chemistry major. Crazy, right?! I always knew I was creative but being a first-generation college student, there were a lot of pressure. Thank god I did switcheroo, because seriously, I can't imagine me in a lab creating some sort of chemical concoction, unless maybe if it has to do with ice cream.
After graduation, I moved back to Los Angeles where I took on a brief internship at a litho printing company in the Arts District. We printed for now big-time artists like Chris Johanson and Shepard Fairey. After that, I worked for April Greiman at Made In Space for a year and it was around that time when I started blogging about my thrifty adventures and that's when Old Brand New was born.
I turned Old Brand New into a design studio about two years ago. The meaning behind the name is pretty straight forward—it's all about mixing the old and the new. Turning something old and making it brand new! For interiors, I am an eclectic bohemian at heart where I blend different periods of designs . As for graphic design, I combine old, industrial and traditional techniques to create something tactile feeling. With photography, I shoot with film and digital cameras to create something new and exciting.
When I'm not working on fun projects, I'm most likely being a vintage vulture!
