Living Room Refresh with Castlery

Sponsored by Castlery

My aunt does so much for our family, but she rarely thinks of herself. So when Castlery invited me to makeover a room using their cool, modern pieces, I knew she’d be the perfect person to treat.

One of my signatures in any room is sprinkling some yellow. That said, I understand that not everyone loves to splash bold hues from floor to ceiling. Despite the fact that we’re related, my aunt is one of those people. Though I must say, over the years I think I’ve had a bit of influence on her decor preferences. Not too long ago, she gravitated mostly towards traditional styles. But after living with me for a few months back when I first moved into my LA home, she started becoming more and more interested in a contemporary aesthetic. She even came around to the idea of COLOR!

One of her favorite parts of my home was the yellow sofa in my living room, so I knew I wanted to give her her own version. Once I started shopping on Castlery, I instantly honed in on the Jonathan L-Shape Sectional Sofa in Meadow Yellow. Because the brand offers free fabric swatches, I was able to see the color in person before committing to it. Just as I had hoped, the yellow is soft, but still makes a statement, so it instantly earned the starring role of the living room.

My aunt lives with her brother and sister-in-law and the living room is the place they all love to gather and play card games, so this roomy, comfy sofa is also going to get a lot of mileage. It’s important that it looks as great as it feels. Castlery uses very high quality and durable materials, too, so I know it’s going to last them a long time.

With the sofa as the main attraction, I wanted the other major pieces in the room to be pretty neutral in color. Thankfully, Castlery has a ton of great options for everything from textiles to storage pieces. To ground everything, I opted for two Yara Jute rugs. It’s bold yet unassuming and the material really holds up in high traffic areas like the living room. It’s also one of the softest jute rugs I’ve ever felt.

Another key piece is the August TV Stand. My aunt loves Mid-Century style and this has the same vibe. We used this TV stand to create a focal point with a vibrant gallery wall filled with prints of mine from my print shop.

Just because something is neutral in color doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Just look at the Paloma bouclé armchair I chose for the room. It’s got a sexy shape and I’m a sucker for boucle. It’s trending right now, but I also think it will be chic forever. We hung up yellow velvet curtains and brought in yellow gladiolus for that extra punch of yellow.

To add in another natural texture, I also picked out the Mico Rattan Stool. Rattan adds a tropical touch to any space and makes it feel more relaxed and adds extra seating. With all my Castlery pieces in place, I added smaller pops of color and patter with art, plants, and pillows to balance the yellow sofa and make the room feel even more layered and personalized. The end result was the perfect blend of modern and laid-back that made it so well suited to my aunt’s lifestyle.
