HILDEGARD KORGER

On my way home today, I decided to swing by the Out of the Closet in Echo Park. Traffic was crawling because the Dodger's game had just ended, but it didn't stop me from going. I had a gut feeling I was gonna find something great—and I did! Check out the Handbook of Type and Lettering by the German master calligrapher, Hildegard Korger. She offers a traditional series of exercises for both beginners and advanced students. Instead of teaching calligraphy, the book focuses more on the art of lettering and its forms. It also features some inspirational work by other great designers. What a great find and only three dolla–three dolla!
